Alaqua Animal Refuge gets million-dollar donation

A local animal refuge has received a generous donation.

Alaqua Animal Refuge received a $1 million gift from Ryan Jumonville, the chairman of United Networks of America, Inc. and his wife Raven during Alaqua's 8th Annual Sip N Shop event, the organization said in a press release.

They said the donation will be used to build a welcome center.

Alaqua Animal Refuge owner Laurie Hood told NewsChannel 7 that the roadwork for the a new facility has been laid and they are ready to move onto building construction.

The new facility is scheduled to open in 2019 and will be located on Highway 20 near the Biophilia Center.
